Inter class Debating Championship 2026 Grand Final
The school hall came alive with spirited discussion and persuasive speaking on Monday as students gathered for the Inter-Class Debating Championship. The championship featured an exciting face-off between 3EE, representing the Proposition, and 3CE, representing the Opposition, as they debated the motion: "This House Believes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will improve humanity more than harm it." For the purposes of the debate, "humanity" was defined as the qualities that make us human.
Both teams demonstrated impressive critical thinking, confident public speaking, and the ability to engage thoughtfully with one of today's most pressing issues. Speakers presented well-reasoned arguments, challenged opposing viewpoints with insightful rebuttals, and responded effectively under pressure, reflecting the high standard of preparation and teamwork displayed throughout the competition.
A highlight of the championship was the interactive Question-and-Answer segment, also known as the Points of Clarification, where both teachers and students were invited to pose questions related to the motion. Thinking on their feet, the debaters responded spontaneously to the audience's challenges, showcasing their depth of knowledge, quick thinking, and composure under pressure.
After a closely contested debate, 3EE emerged as the winning team, successfully convincing the adjudicators that the benefits of artificial intelligence outweigh its potential drawbacks. Individual excellence was also recognised, with the Best Speaker award going to a member of the 3CE Opposition team for an outstanding display of eloquence, analysis, and rebuttal.
The championship was a celebration of intellectual curiosity, respectful discourse, and confident communication—hallmarks of the school's commitment to nurturing thoughtful, articulate, and future-ready learners.
Moments before the first speech, both teams stand ready to showcase their critical thinking, teamwork, and public speaking skills.
